This week’s theme for LensProtoGo’s 52 Week Project was “Looking Out”. I didn’t have a plan for this one, but I was going up to Maryland to shoot a friend’s wedding, so I knew I’d come across something. I actually did catch this shot until the tail end of our weekend. I wanted to visit my grandparents grave at Arlington National Cemetery. I hadn’t been there since my grandmother passed because I’ve always lived in other states since then. And it’s very emotional. You can just feel it there, the rawness is palpable on the grounds. It just hits you. But we were just walking looking out over the gravestones, and they really are perfectly laid out and I wanted to capture the geometric lines and contrast. I think it made for a nice, simple tribute.
